Very close to Villach lies the idyllic high valley of Bad Bleiberg at 920 metres above sea level - a traditional spa town with a unique charm. Once an important mining centre, today the town is known for its soothing thermal waters and the impressive natural surroundings of the Villach Alps . With its imposing 2,167 metres, the Dobratsch is not only a striking eye-catcher, but also a versatile nature and recreation area.

Once used as a mining centre, Villach's local mountain is now a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and sports enthusiasts. High up on the summit, the striking transmission tower rises into the sky, while two of the highest churches in Europe are picturesquely embedded in the landscape.

Dobratsch Nature Park

A paradise for humans and animals

The 8,139-hectare Dobratsch Nature Park impresses with a fascinating variety of landscapes and habitats. From majestic peaks to enchanted moorland - rare animal and plant species find a protected home here.

More than 1,100 butterfly species, 125 bird species and even golden eagles or bears can be observed with a bit of luck.

The nature park is a true Eldorado for hikers, nature lovers and all those who want to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the Alpine landscape to the full.

Landskron Castle is one of the most beautiful excursion destinations in Carinthia. The eagle flight show, which can be visited amidst the breathtaking ambience of the castle, offers visitors everything they need to know about birds of prey. GALLERY HIKE

An interesting themed hiking trail that provides information on the history of historic mining in the region and especially in Bad Bleiberg. This 5 km long panoramic trail, which runs along the surface at the foot of the Erzberg, connects 25 of the former 1,200 Bleiberg mine entrances.
